I had my appointments at Mayo yesterday. Mark and I left Bill and Kim's house at 5:40am and got to Mayo at around 7:00am. I had my blood draw from my port and that went well. After that I had my CT scan. They can't use my port for that IV, so they have to start an IV in my arm. I have very small veins and am a very hard stick. They packed my arms with hot packs and wrapped me in warm blankets and it still didn't do the trick. I got poked 4 times and then on the 5th time they finally got in my vein. My veins are so scarred from my hospital visits that they can't get the catheter past the scar tissue. So, it makes it even harder to find a good vein. After that I had a chest X-ray and then I had a 2:00 apt with the oncologist. So, now that you have read all of that, I bet you want to know the results...
I AM CANCER FREE!!! I went and saw Dr. Grothey, my oncologist, and before he even got to his chair he walked into the room and told me that everything looked great!!! He knows what an anxious person I am, so he always tells us the results right away. I am so excited, thankful, and happy that I am doing so well. I am now 2 years and a month cancer free and am doing great! Due to the problems with finding my vein for a CT scan he decided that we should try to switch to an MRI next time. He was also concerned about long term radiation effects on me. So, next time they won't have to poke me at all! If they need to have an IV, they are able to use my port! He also moved my appointment times to every 5-6 months instead of every 4 months! Thank you all for your continued prayers! I am proof that the power of prayer really does help!
